How foolish it is to assume
that we can change our age
by the way we choose to groom
frivolous spending of our hard earned wage
no matter how old we are
the youth that is granted to us
by the hair left upon the floor
returns to our step a youthful lust
and when we step out-of-doors
the smiles and glances of strangers
and with the confidence of childhood pours
tempered only by adult dangers
we rejoyce in our simple youth recaptured
aware that any old mutt
can return to the aura of youthful rapture
by the means of a simple puppy cut.
